Grand National

The Grand National is the single most watched horse race in the world with estimated viewing figures of around 500 to 600 million. This is due to its steeped history and the incredible sceptical that it provides. The race had a positive move with the changes to how the weights are made which resulted in it being contesting by classier horses. With this being the case this year is set to be no different and you can check out the infographic below which covers the weights change and the key contenders ahead of the 2018 contest. You can place a bet on the Grand National now and it is the Irish trained Total Recall currently heading the betting at 11/1.

The 9 year old Total Recall is now trained by maestro Willie Mullins following his move from Sandra Hughes in September. He has shown some staggering improvement that firstly started in the Munster National where he beat a top class field easily that also included the classy Alpha Des Obeaux. He then contested the big Newbury handicap (Formally the Hennessy) and showed he has stamina in abundance in beating the Nicky Henderson trained Whisper by a neck.

Total Recall was then sent back over hurdles at Leopardstown where he looked to have a huge amount in hand at the weights. However he raced freely through out, pulling for much of the contest but somehow managed to win comfortably by 3 lengths further backing up the improvement the horse had made this year. He was then sent to the Cheltenham Gold Cup as a well fancied outsider and travelled well for much of the contest. He started to be pushed along but was making eye catching headway into 6^th before falling. It is difficult to mark down where the horse would have finished but a place finish could have been very likely which would put him down as having a solid chance in the Grand National. He will be running off a nice racing weight and if able to stay the gruelling 4 mile plus distance and holding his jumping together then he could be another Grand National winner for Willie Mullins and for Ireland following Rule the World’s victory back in 2016.
